How to split a PDF

Splitting a PDF means taking one document and turning it into several. The most common reason is a scan that contains many pages in one file, when you only need one of them — a single invoice from a monthly statement, one chapter from a report, or the signed page from a contract. This tool splits your PDF into individual pages, one PDF per page, and gives them to you as a ZIP file. You can also extract a page range (for example pages 3 to 7) as a single new PDF.

Drop a PDF and choose how to split it. "Every page" gives you one PDF per page, named by page number, inside a ZIP. "Page range" asks for a start and end page and gives you one PDF containing just those pages. The pages keep their original content, size, and order — splitting only divides the document, it never changes a page.

Everything runs in your browser, so the document never leaves your device. That matters when the PDF is a bank statement, a medical record, or a contract. There is no page limit beyond a sensible cap, and no daily limit, so you can split a 200-page scan in one go. If you only need a few pages, the range option is faster than downloading a ZIP of every page and deleting the ones you do not want.

A practical tip: if you split a PDF and then need the pages in a different order, use the Merge PDF tool afterwards — split, then merge in the order you want. The two tools are designed to work together, and because both run locally, the whole round trip takes seconds.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Drop a PDF file onto the page.
  2. 2Choose "Every page" or type a page range (for example 3-7).
  3. 3Download the ZIP of single pages, or the extracted range as one PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages can I split at once?

There is no fixed page limit. A 200-page PDF splits into 200 single-page files in one ZIP. Very large documents take longer because your browser does the work.

Does splitting change the pages?

No. Each page is copied exactly as it is — same content, same size, same order. Splitting only divides the document.

Can I extract pages 3 to 7 only?

Yes. Choose the page-range option, type 3-7, and you get one PDF with just those pages.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Splitting happens entirely in your browser. Your PDF never leaves your device.
